IDSKETCHING Update

Last week the School of Industrial Design and CIDSA had the pleasure of hosting Spencer Nugent from IDsketching come to talk to us! He gave us a lecture on visual communication and followed up with two back to back workshops on the basics of sketching and advanced techniques with photoshop. Thank you Spencer for coming! Also, thank you Fabian for making this event happen!

CIDSA Ski and Snowboard Trip!

After the huge success of last year's trip to Mont Cascade, CIDSA has brought the event back once more next Friday, January 20th. 
Meet in 1st/2nd year studio around at 5pm, the bus will be departing at 5:15 pm.
It will be 25$ in total: $10 for the bus, $5 for the rental and $10 for the lift pass. Due to this breakdown if you have your own ride or your own skis, the price will be reduced. 
Sign up sheets are up! Please indicate if you have your own ride/ ticket! We need 40 students to sign up for the bus in order to cover the cost of rental... so invite your friends!

Sketching Workshop W/ Spencer Nugent of idsketching.com

Mark your calendars, Spencer Nugent from idsketching.com is scheduled to lead a sketching lecture/workshop at the start of next month. If you're not familiar with his site, you should take a minute to check out some of his video tutorials. Students of all sketching abilities are welcome!

CIDSA Masters Student Q & A

This Thursday a few of the Masters of Design students will be speaking to interested students about the program and the work that they are doing here at Carleton. The masters students are all working on fascinating projects, and it will be a great chance to see the design work that is being completed here at Carleton at the masters level.

Alëna Konyk and Belal Alsibai will be talking to students and answering any questions students may have about their experiences and the program itself.

The facilities are really nice and so are the Masters Students so come check it out!

CIDSA Internship Talk

CIDSA is holding an Internship talk this Friday, Sept 30th at 3pm in the Review Room.


Upper year ID students who have completed internships will be speaking about their experiences in finding and completing their design internships.

Beach Blast + Potluck

Hey Everyone,

CIDSA will be having the first event of the year this weekend! This year's Beach Blast + Potluck will be this Saturday, September 17th from 12-4pm. We will be meeting in studio @ 1130am for people who want to travel with the group.

Bring some food (chips, cookies or other snacks to share) and beach toys to entertain yourselves. There will be a sandcastle building contest so make sure to bring shovels and buckets if you have them too.

Minh's Legacy

CIDSA organized a ski/snowboard trip to Mt Cascade last week. As you know, the main guys behind the event were Teddy and Minh from fourth year. This was also made possible with a bit of help from Stephen Field. Kudos to him. My camera batteries froze and died from the cold so I don't have many pictures. Thanks for all those who came out that day and I hope you guys had a lot of fun and not a lot of bruises! For those that did not make it, HA! You missed out! But please refer to the bottom of the page.

Toboganning photos!

For those who missed us on Friday, CIDSA had a toboganning event at Mooney's bay. We all headed out in the afternoon with hot chocolate, marshmallows and tobogans (or something to slide on). The hill had questionable patches of green near the top, but was really icy wherever there was snowcover. I was surprised no one came with their own tobogan creation, but we had some people test cardboard and vinyl on the slopes. (Neither made it far) We also did a mini race/competition with all the toboganners but half of them wiped out within the first three meters.(probably out of nerves) Nonetheless it was exciting to watch!

Some things to remember from this night is...
1. Jennifer Bin can't steer
2. Thomas Lee can stuff a lot of marshmallows in his mouth
3. A wooden sled > a plastic sled > a plastic sheet.
