Recess!

The snow has arrived at Carleton! Since the 3rd years' class was cancelled on the first snow of the year we decided some good old fashioned recess was in order! A few wet feet and frozen hands later, everyone was feeling preeeeetty satisfied with how today has turned out.

34th Annual SID Seminar Series - FLUXES! Designing in a Fluid Society

Keep Drawing

Reminds me of that game you would play in homeroom in 6th grade, where each person secretly draws a different section of the body on a folded paper and when you unfold it you've got a glorious mash-up figure.

21 Nov 2011 - Week 3 of my internship.

I'm just starting my third week here, and I'm beginning to get more projects. There is no looming deadline at the moment for our projects, so we are all taking it very easy. Actually, my coworker just left after lunch and I have the afternoon off now.  It's kind of weird like that.

ID

So I got off the subway today and I turned around and saw this. I definitely did a "HA," out loud and snapped a pic to share with you guys. Weird, because I've been getting off at this station for a week now and this is the first time I've seen it.

Crit Talk with Phil So

So you think you've got a good idea. But at your crit, people aren't nearly as enthusiastic. How do you react? What do you do? Could you do better?

Criticism is a big part of our field. How you approach it'll guide your motivations, relationships, and ultimately your idea's success.

An open discussion on why you should value and seek criticism, how to be honest about your ideas, and to give criticism people will want to hear.

Come hear different opinions, voice your own, ask questions, or reassure what you already think!

Process

A geometric and ergonomic knife designed by Lebedev Studio, their form exploration and process leading up to the final design is pretty interesting... take a look.

Nature is Mint

The Royal Canadian Mint is releasing a few special coins with graphics that can best be described as "very cute". They celebrate Canada's glorious nature and Parks Canada's centennial. It's too late to order the absolutely delightful looking loonies, but the toonie is currently available. Best of all, they're pretty much free!

In response to BLMSA's post...

9 Nov 2011 - Week 10 of my internship.

Was supposed to stick around for 9 months, but cut it short to 3 months. I'll be finishing at the end of the month instead to switch to a different internship. Suppose I'll post a picture of my new office in a few weeks!

Overheard (on Dezeen)

"Electronics brand Jawbone have launched a wristband by San Francisco designer Yves Behar that monitors your every move then tells you what to do."

So cheeky! Hahahah.

Anything: Blog Infographics

Since blogspot is so lovely and provides us with statistics about our pageviews we decided to take this information and make some infographics out of them because infographics are fun!

This is the first of many, and it overviews which operating systems our blog viewers are using.

The Students of Architecture at Carleton University have hosted an annual public event for the past 38 years. The event is well known for its installations created by the students. These architectural interventions dramatically transform the spaces into dream-like places through music, art and design. It has proven to be an important part in the students education; an opportunity to expand their passions through full scale construction.

Support the Carleton Architecture students and help raise funds for Architecture for Humanity.

It's going to be a good time, guaranteed!

Tickets will be on sale for 25$ tomorrow, and then the price increases to 30$ next week.

What is Silk Screening?

A quick overview of silk screening...

Post about your favourite silk screened things!

Silk Screening Workshop

CIDSA will be holding a Silk Screening Workshop on Saturday November 12th.

Due to limited materials the workshop will be done in pairs, meaning that you will work together to create one screen, but once the screen is made you can put the design onto your own materials.

The process is very interesting and the workshop is sure to be a great learning experience and a lot of fun!

Hope to see you all there.

LIVE THE LANGUAGE

Cute videos from  Education First, a language education organization that promotes traveling to different countries to learn the culture and language. Though I'm not from the West Coast, this particular video made me miss Canada. Watch them all here, they'll make you smile, and maybe you'll learn some new phrases.

PS, the graphic elements may make you smile as well.
